Site spiral staircase with side exit…
The Escalib Mills MDS (Safe Erection and Dismantling) is a metal spiral staircase with side exit. The triangular step then acts as a landing. Turn the Escalib Mills stair tower through 90° until the slab of the steps is level with the working deck. The stair tower is constructed using a base, 1 to 8 modules that are easy to erect using a crane and a barrier gate at the top (maximum height 20 m).
Erection using only collective protection (no safety harness) is simple and fast: just 4 nuts per module. Each module has foldaway barrier gates that are attached at one end.
The Escalib Mills tower can be moved by crane.
Its small footprint makes it easy to set up even in cramped sites.
Advantages:
- Easy, safe access (all the levels can be accessed without modification).
- Erection and dismantling using collective protection with built-in guardrails (no safety harness).
- Fast installation and mobility.
- Compact footprint.
- Only three different one-piece sections.
- Can be moved by crane.
- Compatible with Escalib 2- and 3-rail models.
- Tough and galvanised (powder coated finish also available).

Mills Access Staircases FAQ
What are Mills access staircases and what are they used for?
Mills access staircases are modular temporary stair systems designed to provide safe access between different levels on construction sites, including shafts, basements, tunnels and multi-storey structures.
What are the advantages of Mills access staircases compared to ladders or scaffolding?
Mills staircases provide safer and more efficient access than ladders, with built-in guardrails and stable platforms. They also offer faster installation and improved productivity compared to traditional scaffold stair systems.
How are Mills access staircases installed?
Mills stair towers are modular systems that can be quickly assembled using a small number of fixings per module. They can be erected using a crane and do not require complex installation procedures.
What heights can Mills access staircases reach?
Mills access stair systems can be configured with multiple modules to reach heights of up to approximately 20 metres, depending on the configuration and site requirements.
Are Mills access staircases suitable for restricted or confined sites?
Yes, Mills stair towers have a compact footprint and modular design, making them ideal for use in tight or restricted areas such as shafts, basements and urban construction sites.
Do Mills access staircases improve site safety?
Yes, Mills staircases are designed with integrated guardrails and collective protection systems, allowing safe access without the need for safety harnesses during installation and use.
