AGD flies again! Sheet piling rig lifted into cofferdam in Thames for JN Piling

AGD flies again, this time one of our brand new Hyundai HX330L excavators with tier 4 engine is lifted into a cofferdam in the River Thames for JN Piling to install some additional sheet piles. The machine was stripped of its attachments in order to keep the weight to a minimum for lifting purposes.

Once inside it first had its dangle drill attachment fitted, to pre auger the very stiff soils ahead of the sheet pile installation process. Using the machine's quick hitch attachment it then switched effortlessly to the SMS SG80 side grip vibro to pitch the piles. And finally to the IHC Fundex CPE15 impact hammer to drive the piles to finished level.

AGD are well versed in devising ways to find solutions to gain access in difficult situations. We regularly strip down machines to reduce weights so that they may be lifted in and out of sites to keep costs to a minimum, and we have a fleet of compact crawler cranes and piling rigs suitable for restricted access locations.

Giken Super Crush Pilers popular with Highways England

Giken Super Crush Pilers popular with Highways England

Ivor King Piling have just completed a contract on the A500 in Staffordshire for Osborne on behalf of Highways England.

600 number U profile sheet piles were installed as two retaining walls, immediately alongside a live carriageway on the A500 near Stoke on Trent. The walls were in close proximity to houses and so noise and vibration were a major consideration, along with minimising disruption so that the busy road could be kept open.

Two of IK's Giken ECO700S super crush pilers supplied and serviced by UK dealer AGD Equipment were deployed on the project. The super crush was necessary in order to deal with the mudstone soil conditions which a standard solo press would not have been able to handle.

Two of our Sennebogen 683R 80 tons telescopic crawler cranes were supplied by us as service cranes on hire to the project, handling the super crush equipment and pitching the sheet piles.

The project was a huge success and completed ahead of schedule. Highways England are so impressed they are looking at rolling out the use of Giken super crush systems across all of their smart motorway and dual carriageway widening schemes.

Giken F301 silent piler installs egg shaped cofferdam in Southampton

One of our Giken F301 silent pilers is installing an egg shaped cofferdam as part of a development scheme along the banks of the river Itchen in Southampton, Hampshire.

The 14.5 m long AZ42 sheet piles have been installed for Knights Brown and their Bid Manager Nick Gibb commented "It's great to have a project where we have the opportunity to use the Giken silent piler, this provided so many advantages over traditional piling, not least the complex temporary works we would have needed to accommodate the oval shape".

Do you have silent piling requirements? Hard soils, odd shaped cofferdams, restricted access. No matter how difficult the challenge. AGD and our skilled operators have the solution.

Giken GRB system "flown" into Langley station

Giken CB2-5 clamp crane

Giken GRB system "flown" into Langley station

We've been busy over the past few weeks and weekends for Universal Piling at Langley station, near Slough in Berkshire. The task was to install a line of 8 m long L606 'U' profile sheet piles alongside a railway line through tough soil conditions in extremely restricted access.

The equipment selected for the task was:

Giken F201 silent piler with EU300 stage 4 power pack mounted on UR1 unit runner (to facilitate the power pack travelling on top of the previously installed sheet piles as there is no space for it to track alongside)

Giken CB2-5 7 tons capacity clamp crane (the crane "walks" along the previously installed sheet piles behind the Giken F201 once again due to lack of access for a standard crawler crane to work).

Giken AT120 water jet pump and tank

Giken JR22 super jet reel (water jetting equipment required to assist with penetrating the tough soils to suceed in installing the piles to the required level)

The first hurdle was to lift the equipment into the site from a compound over the station perimeter fence. This had to be done during possession hours on Saturday nights. Once in to site the Giken F201 installed the first few piles using a mobile crane to pitch the piles, and then the clamp crane was lifted in and continued along the line behind the silent piler until the job was completed. Once the last pile was in the clamp crane and F201 silent piler "walked back" along the previously installed piles and were lifted back out during another weekend possession.

All in a days (and nights) work for the AGD team!

If you have a sheet piling project with access problems or hard soils, Giken offers the right solution. Contact us for sales or rental enquiries.

60 years since AGD bought their first crawler crane!

10RB crawler crane

60 years since AGD bought their first crawler crane!

Today we are celebrating 60 years since we bought our first crawler crane. The 10RB in the top picture shows where it all started in 1958. Then we have the ubiquitous 22RB. These cranes were our meat and gravy for 20 years. This one is on a site in Nottingham in 1971. Then we show off our first telescopic crawler crane. The IHI CCH300T entered our fleet in 1996 and also delivered loyal service for 20 years until being replaced in 2016 by the Sennebogen 643R. These and the Marchetti Sherpina models now make up the meat and gravy in our rental fleet of more than 60 cranes.

And so as times change many things remain the same. AGD have always been at the forefront of technology continually investing in equipment, purpose built premises and staff.

If you are looking to hire or buy your next crawler crane why not contact AGD? We've been doing them for 60 years and are proud of your heritage. #OrangeCranes #Longevity #Reliability
