Pink crane for Cancer Research donates again!

It’s the time of year when we donate to Cancer Research UK.  In 2012 we painted a brand new Marchetti Sherpa 70 tons telescopic crawler crane pink in memory of one of our founder members who we’d just lost to cancer.

Affectionately known as the Pink Panther we’ve donated a share of her income every year since. So this year is our 8th year and we are up to £75,000 in donations. Here are a few of the jobs she has been on over the years.

Telescopic leader rig hire

AGD supports DWM at Mytholmroyd station

We’ve been helping out our customer DWM Civil Engineering installing sheet piles for a car park extension at Mytholmroyd railway station. One of our RTG RG16T Telescopic Leader Rigs with tier 5 engine first pre augered the pile positions, then a Sennebogen 643R 40 tons telescopic crawler crane pitched the piles for the rig to drive to depth with its 150 tons vibrator.

The whole operation was supported by a Marchetti Sherpina 25 tons telescopic crawler Crane which unloaded and loaded the piles onto a tractor and trailer for distribution. The job went very well. 240 linear metres of 14 m long pairs of ZZ26 sheet piles were installed in 4 weeks. Here are some photos to show the finished result!

AGD supplies two crawler cranes at Battersea

Crawler crane hire

AGD supplies two crawler cranes at Battersea

Recently we supplied two crawler cranes to Ivor King Piling for a job they were doing in Shuttleworth Road, Battersea, London.

The contract was to install a sheet pile retaining wall directly alongside the railway line in order to free up land for Network Rail to utilise for development. The site was extremely small and required he right size cranes to be selected for the space constraints.

The contractor used two Giken super crush silent pilers to install the sheet piles, and we supplied two crawler cranes to service them. Each crane has to pitch piles for the silent pilers to install, along with other duties such as unloading piles from delivery lorries, lifting the Giken etc.

The cranes supplied were as follows:-

Sennebogen 6100HD – 100 tons lattice boom crawler crane with virtual wall system and tilting / raising cab

Chosen for the heavy lifts and ability to reach to the furthest points of the site

Marchetti Roma – 55 tons telescopic boom crawler crane with virtual wall system and tilting cab

Chosen for the ability to work with its tracks retracted in a very tight corridor to service the silent pilers with piles.

Both cranes needed virtual wall systems to prevent working within the close proximity of the live railway line.

The job took about 4 weeks and progressed very well. We supplied both cranes with our own fully trained and directly employed operators.

AGD Equipment are the UK & Ireland distributors for both Sennebogen and Marchetti cranes.

AGD provides one stop shop for JN Piling at Werrington

RTG telescopic leader rigs

AGD provides one stop shop for JN Piling at Werrington

We are currently involved in a rail improvement project at Werrington, Near Peterborough for JN Piling. The contract involves installing 10 m long pairs of AZ26 sheet piles through very stiff clays in between the tracks while trains are in use.

Two RTG telescopic leader rigs were chosen for the piling. An RG16T for pre augering, and an RG19T for installation of the sheet piles using a 150 tons resonance free variable moment vibrator. Two 70 tons telescopic crawler cranes were also required for servicing the project. Two Sennebogen 673Rs were selected. One for unloading and loading sheet piles in the steel yard and the other for unloading at the site between the railway tracks.

The sheet piles are transported between the yard and the work site during possession each Saturday night via tractors and trailers also provided by us. And then distributed along the pile line using the 673R crane on site.

We were able to supply all the plant and operators to handle this project efficiently. As all of our piling rig operators can also operate crawler cranes and some can even drive tractors too! Thus negating the need for each machine to have its own operator as pile distribution is going on at different times to pile installation.

The job is progressing well. After the sheet piles there was also a requirement for some 833 mm diameter tubes to be installed which the RG19T carries out using a twist bar attachment fabricated in our fabrication shop, see photos and video below. Finally some sheet piles we're installed under a bridge using one of our SMS side grip vibros.

Ivor King chooses RTG from AGD for the 2nd time

Ivor King Piling chooses RTG for the second time. After their positive experience with their first RG21T which is pictured here drilling 600 mm diameter CFA piles in Leicester, a second rig was ordered.

It has now been delivered and you can read a case study here to learn about the success of the two rigs working together on the A14 in Cambridgeshire. The second machine is also equipped with a twin rotary head for dealing with hard ground and installation of secant walls.

A photo of the DKS 50/100 twin rotary head being handed over to Simon King & Andy King is also appended.

AGD flies again! Sheet piling rig lifted into cofferdam in Thames for JN Piling

AGD flies again! Sheet piling rig lifted into cofferdam in Thames for JN Piling

AGD flies again, this time one of our brand new Hyundai HX330L excavators with tier 4 engine is lifted into a cofferdam in the River Thames for JN Piling to install some additional sheet piles. The machine was stripped of its attachments in order to keep the weight to a minimum for lifting purposes.

Once inside it first had its dangle drill attachment fitted, to pre auger the very stiff soils ahead of the sheet pile installation process. Using the machine's quick hitch attachment it then switched effortlessly to the SMS SG80 side grip vibro to pitch the piles. And finally to the IHC Fundex CPE15 impact hammer to drive the piles to finished level.

AGD are well versed in devising ways to find solutions to gain access in difficult situations. We regularly strip down machines to reduce weights so that they may be lifted in and out of sites to keep costs to a minimum, and we have a fleet of compact crawler cranes and piling rigs suitable for restricted access locations.

Giken Super Crush Pilers popular with Highways England

Giken ECO700S super crush piler

Giken Super Crush Pilers popular with Highways England

Ivor King Piling have just completed a contract on the A500 in Staffordshire for Osborne on behalf of Highways England.

600 number U profile sheet piles were installed as two retaining walls, immediately alongside a live carriageway on the A500 near Stoke on Trent. The walls were in close proximity to houses and so noise and vibration were a major consideration, along with minimising disruption so that the busy road could be kept open.

Two of IK's Giken ECO700S super crush pilers supplied and serviced by UK dealer AGD Equipment were deployed on the project. The super crush was necessary in order to deal with the mudstone soil conditions which a standard solo press would not have been able to handle.

Two of our Sennebogen 683R 80 tons telescopic crawler cranes were supplied by us as service cranes on hire to the project, handling the super crush equipment and pitching the sheet piles.

The project was a huge success and completed ahead of schedule. Highways England are so impressed they are looking at rolling out the use of Giken super crush systems across all of their smart motorway and dual carriageway widening schemes.
