We're at Another Place, Crosby Beach in Liverpool installing 355 mm diameter tubular piles as foundations for 100 statues commissioned by Sir Antony Gormley.

The statues all had to be in line with the horizon so it involved digging as well as piling. We had to work with the tides but it is all in a days work for our Hyundai HX330L excavator with #SMS SGM80 #SideGrip vibro and experienced operators and banksmen. Go #TeamOrange

We received a call from Land & Water on a Thursday to ask if we could help provide suitable plant and labour to install two sheet piled cofferdams in a river in Tooting, south London. Our answer was positive so we were asked to go and take a look and help plan how the job could be carried out. So we despatched one of our most experienced piling operatives the next morning and a plan was developed.

Due to the need for the sheet piles to be installed underneath a temporary bridge with only 1.5 m of headroom we came up with the idea of extending one pile in each corner by 200 mm in order to be able to drive the piles on the inside, under the bridge, from the outside.

The plan was approved and we received the order on the Friday with an instruction to mobilise the following Wednesday. We also were asked to supply the special piles and we delivered everything on time as agreed.

Access is restricted and we can only stand the equipment on one corner of each side of the bridge and then reach to the far side. We deployed an SMS SG80 side grip vibro mounted on a Hyundai HX330L excavator to install the piles which it can reach and a Marchetti Sherpina 25 tons telescopic crawler crane with a Pajot 1200C air hammer to drive those piles further away.

In addition to the operators, we also supplied the piling operative and welders to the customer. The special piles had to be cut and then welded in sections.

AGD love piling so much we even do it at night! Here we are in Liverpool installing 508 mm diameter tubes for SPI Piling on behalf of AE Yates Ltd. We first pre auger using a dangle drill, then handle pitch and drive the tubular piles with an SMS SG80 side grip vibro. Finally we drive the piles to the required set with our Fundex CPE15 impact hammer. All in a nights work for our operators.

Another successful Giken GRB system project has been completed in Hull. This time for Steel Piling Solutions utilising a Giken F201 silent piler, UR1 power pack runner, TB3 pile runner and CB2-5 clamp crane to install U profile sheet piles.

The GRB system was required due to the restricted access nature of the site, behind factories and adjacent to the Hull river. The project was part of a flood alleviation scheme been undertaken by BAM Nuttall Ltd.

A brand new Fambo HR5000 5 tons hydraulic impact piling hammer added to the hire fleet. The hammer is designed to fit the range of RTG telescopic leader rigs utilising the patented ACS automatic coupling system. All of the functions are controlled through the Bauer B-Tronic computer system installed on the rig including the ability to record data from the pile driving activities.

The machine is being used on its first job in Hook, Hampshire for regular customer NW Rail where it is back driving U profile sheet piles to level.

The hammer is also able to drive Z sheet piles in either singles or pairs, tubular piles, H piles, timber piles and precast concrete piles.

AGD Equipment recently redefined the term “restricted access” when we hired equipment to install two sheet piled basement walls for Zalman Properties near Vauxhall Bridge in London. Due to the dense gravels and hard clay a compact Soiltek S80-CFA rig was deployed to pre auger the soil ahead of the sheet pile installation which was done with a Giken F201 silent piler. It was serviced by a Sennebogen 643R 40 tons telescopic crawler crane. All of the equipment was supplied with experienced operators and Tier 4 engines to meet the emission standards for this part of London.

We were recently working together on a contract in Burton on Trent for Ivor King Piling on behalf of Galliford Try installing sheet piles for a flood alleviation project. The piles were being installed using the Giken GRB and Super Crush system. Our role was to supply the cranes and some of the ancillary equipment to the project. One of our Sennebogen 680HD 80 tons lattice boom crawler cranes was situated at the start of the pile line and was used for unloading piles from delivery lorries and distributing piles to the Giken TB3 pile runner. Which then delivers the piles down the line of previously installed piles to the Giken CB2 clamp crane. The clamp crane which also walks along the piles, slews around and pitches the pile into the chuck of the Giken super crush silent piler. All equipment supplied with experienced operators, available for hire anywhere in the world.
